Reham Khan gives free textbooks to IDPs children

May 4, 2015

BANNU: Reham Khan, the spouse of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, Thursday said that children of the tribespeople from North Waziristan could be saved from falling into wrong hands only through providing them proper education.

She was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Bacha Khan Education Foundation Trust Primary School for the children of internally displaced persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan here.Special Assistant to chief minister on Transport and Technical Education Malik Shah Muhammad Khan, Assistant Commissioner Aurangzeb Khan, general secretary North Waziristan Affectees Committee Malik Ghulam Khan, PTI local leaders and tribal elders were also present on the occasion.

Reham Khan said that provision of education to the children and youth of the displaced families were the utmost need of the uprooted families. “Because no one can use educated youth for their personal goals,” she maintained.

She said that a precious academic year of the children of North Waziristan was wasted due to the military operation against militants there.Reham Khan said that she resigned from the job to play her part in educating the tribal youth.

She said the Bacha Khan Primary Trust School has been launched to provide free education facility to the IDP children. She said that 10 teachers were voluntarily teaching at the centre. “The IDPs left their settlements for the better future of the country and it is the responsibility of every citizen to extend all out support to educate the children,” she added.

Reham Khan said that the children from the North Waziristan were talented and needed an opportunity to exhibit their talent.“We have to give books in the hands of the tribal children and make an end to the Kalashnikov culture through education,” she said.

Reham Khan expressed disappointment over the hours long loadshedding in the areas where the IDPs were staying and urged the authorities concerned to take note of the situation.Later, she distributed free textbooks, schoolbags and other items among the children of the IDPs and informed about their hardships.
