National Institute of Cultural Studies (NICS) is a unique professional education facility that takes pride in its consistency, commitment to the work and quality. We are lucky that we are in a profession that is our passion too. Perhaps man’s biggest achievement is learning and refining his capacity to express himself and communicate his knowledge with the coming generations.. The twentieth century saw the dawn of the information era through out the inventions of motion pictures , radio, independent press, television and internet, all accomplished one after the other. It was modern education that enabled billions of men and women proclaim their rights to speak, decide, choose and ask questions.
Education has the capacity to empower with might of knowledge the common people; whom apathy, hunger, disease and homelessness, had once condemned to irrelevance. To claim for their due place in the global search of humans dignity in a new world order. National of Cultural Studies (NICS) creates the right kind of atmosphere through dissemination of knowledge and practical training that harnesses culture through education and does the job poverty alleviation through the professions of the twenty first century coupled with product and crafts designing.
NICS has already earned the respect of people and a reputation that it is surely coming up to the task it has been interested with.

National Training Bureau:
The institute is affiliated with National Training Bureau (NTB) for awarding all skill based diplomas, which are internationally and nationally recognized. NICS is running courses at diploma and certificate level for various skills in different fields.
University of Peshawar:
National Institute of Cultural Studies is affiliated with University of Peshawar for awarding undergraduate degrees in the field of Arts & Design, Mass Communication & Journalism and Business Administration.

Seminars and Conferences
National Institute of Cultural Studies is committed to its mission and has put many endeavors to bring its vision to life. In the same context the Institute has been involved in arranging a series of different seminars in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. Prominent scholars like Mr. Ahmad Faraz, Ms. Shaheen Atiqur Rehman, Justice Javed Iqbal, S. M. Zafar, Col. Tresslor and Ms. Zubaida Jalal have participated as the key-note speakers in these seminars.
Seminars have been conducted under different social themes, such as the free provision of schoolbooks by government bodies. Such seminars have had far-reaching effects on government policies, with the advent of free schoolbooks provided by the Punjab and KPK governments, followed later by Sindh and Baluchistan.
Youth Leadership Conference
In November 2011 NICS organized a three-day conference with the title “Youth Leadership Conference.” This conference was the first of its kind in Pakistan. More than 150 youth and professionals from all over the country participated actively in this conference. The main objective was to build and enhance leadership skills and qualities. Eminent persons from the media and development sector also attended the conference. Among the speakers and presenters was late Rauf Khalid (NICS), Masood Akhter Air Marshal (Retd.), Muneeza Hashmi, Kamran Lashari, Dr. Fouzia Saeed, Bilal Kutab, Kamran Rizvi, Shamoon Hashmi (SDPD), and Dr. Rakhshinda Perveen.

Textile & Fashion Design
Textile and Apparel Design is a rewarding professional area that relates the physical properties of textiles to our human need for functional and fashionable clothing and home accessories. This option combines the art of design in a rich and challenging learning environment that prepares individuals for dynamic careers at the creative forefront of the textile and fashion industry.
Central to the course is the integration of theory and practice in relation to fashion and textile design.
Interior Design
In this course students will learn how to create exciting spaces that are functional, aesthetically pleasing and sustainable. The diploma programme is stretched over a period of 6 months and offers a comprehensive education that combines studio courses with theory and history. It teaches a manual and digital drawing skill that allows students to communicate ideas effectively. NICS provides a platform which enables students to build a strong portfolio to kick-start their careers.
Media
Script Writing & Short Film
Responsive and proactive, NICS will provide an open door for all the writers to give them access to the skills and the experience of established writers. This course will equip you with a writer’s, director’s and a producer’s toolbox, filled with the basics: how to lay out a script professionally, how to structure your screenplay, the do’s and don’ts of writing compelling dialogues and the ability to breathe life into your characters. After script writing, the students will be exposed to the art of Filmmaking through practical application where students will organize, shoot and edit in groups and submit their final products in order to pass this course.
Camera Lighting & Post Production
Camera lighting and editing is an important aspect of Production phase. Camera is the primary tool in producing a film. This course is designed for those interested in garnering the basic skills required to shoot and edit both documentary style programmes and narrative films. Learning Camera & Lighting techniques is essential for the students who want to continue it as a profession as the techniques taught to the students will help them to capture reality finely and depict different moods and situations. In the final stage, students will be imparted skills to produce final products by editing using Adobe Premier.
TV Direction Production
The course trains the prospective audience on the various stages included in the production process viz. Pre Production, Production & Post Production. The training course is majorly taught using the latest techniques used in video program production process & the teachers themselves are graduates and experiences workers from various film schools and media companies respectively. Special lectures are also delivered by the filmmakers to maintain the “continuity process” needed.
The course training aims to equip its students with all aspects of filmmaking & video program production using digital video equipments. Most of the aspirants willing to be independent filmmakers may join the course. The skills learned during the course may applied in making various kinds of TV Programs & films like advertisement films, telefilms, documentary movies, music videos, etc.
Hotel Management
The hospitality Industry is one of the major employment fields throughout the world. However, despite the wide variety of jobs available within Pakistan, the lack of formal training is a major concern. As the hospitality industry continues to grow, there is a continual need of trained staff.
Studying Hotel Management will enable students to develop in-depth knowledge of management theories and specialized aspects of hotel management, including house-keeping, food and beverage, front-desk etc that will ensure jobs within Pakistan as well as in the international market.
NICS has two training facilities, out of which one happens to be within the campus in the form of a renowned restaurant named as Virsa Café. The second is a guest house compromised of 52 rooms and a small restaurant named as Presitge Residence in F-8 Sector, Islamabad.
Photography & Photoshop
Nowadays, your digital camera is your trusty companion wherever you go on your search for the perfect photo opp. Everyone loves to capture moments on camera and put your subject in the right light?
We’ll show you how to get the best out of your initial photo sessions, how to play with the camera, lighting and setting and how to perfect your motives in digital processing effectively and creatively.
This master class is about producing professionals in still digital photography having an understanding from the basics of light, composition, color, lighting, processing and retouching.
Graphic Design
This course aims to introduce the students to a variety of a experiences exploring a range of Graphic Design techniques and processes. The aim of this course is to give the students a basic understanding of the principles of graphic design and how to create a range of printed materials using Adobe Creative Suite. Anyone with a keen interest and an eye for design can get enrolled in this diploma course and execute their ideas via Graphics.
Umeed-e-Nau
National Institute of Cultural Studies (NICS)) is also one of the leading institutions working for the promotion of women empowerment, poverty reduction and institutional development. In a country like Pakistan, where labor and skills are the only economic asset for millions of people, gainful employment is a prerequisite for the fulfillment of other basic needs and rights – the right to life, the right to food, and the right to education.
NICS formed a Non-for-Profit Organization, “Umeed-e-Nau” as a project for the economic empowerment of women, artisans and development of rural areas throughout Pakistan with special focus on FATA. It is a bold and uniquely successful program, focusing on capacity building and self-sustained revenue generation schemes through trainings and development projects. “Umeed-e-Nau” aims to promote the work of artisans through design innovation thereby producing of goods which can be marketed internationally as well as in locally. This project is successfully being carried out with artisans from Swat, Malakand, D.I Khan, Khairpur, Muzaffarabad, Charsadda, Haripur, Mansehra and Multan.
The management and staff of NICS strongly believe that the revival of cottage industries and the promotion of arts, craft and culture can create economic empowerment and give rise to hope for prosperity and peace. In this vein, the “Umeed e Nau” (A New Hope) project started by the NICS becomes imbued with potential for creating a better, more prosperous future.
