400 schools shut down over FIRs
HARIPUR: The Private Education Network (PEN) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will shut down all 400 private schools of the district on Saturday (today) over the registration of FIRs against the administrations.
Addressing a press conference in Haripur, PEN K-P president Salim Khan said the government booked officials of at least two dozen schools on charges of making inadequate security arrangements. Salim said if the government continues to use brute force and not address concerns of schools, the network will extend the protests to other parts of K-P.
“Police treats school owners as if they are proclaimed offenders,” said PEN office bearer Rashid Khan. He said the treatment is humiliating for those affiliated with the profession of education.
DSP Ishtiaq Khan said the government had devised a comprehensive security plan for educational institutions following the Army Public School attack. Over 40 schools failed to comply with the standards despite three months going by, endangering the lives of hundreds of students.
