How Can You Volunteer?
Remember how in a group project, you join hands with so many others like you to achieve a common goal, that you could not have achieved alone? How you play the part that others lack in? And how others fill in what you possibly could not have done?
Same is true for volunteering. Waiting for government bodies, NGOs and other authorities to take care of everything around you, is too good to be true. You see something wrong? Correct it. Find a problem? Fix it. Meet your own expectations that you keep for others.
Pointing out everything that is wrong, is the easiest thing to do. But trying to correct even 1/10th of them, is only for the most courageous. If every one of the brilliant minds reading this article, take out a few minutes every day for the collective good, there would be nothing we, as a nations can’t achieve.
- Pollution, one of the ugliest marks on the face of our homeland. Doesn’t it bother you?
If it does, would you post about it on Facebook that how you hate it? Or you would volunteer to make a difference?
From this day, if everyone of us vow that we will keep our own streets clear, we will pick up the garbage from pathways and throw it in its proper place, and we will motivate others too by repeating the same act in public; if even one from a crowd of a thousand follows you! YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE. Creating a chain for greater good.
- Ever find yourself complain about the illiteracy rate of our country? A hurdle that seems impossible to cross?
Did you know that even if every 5 of us, the privileged 20% population, volunteer to teach / sponsor one kid for school, how many will we be benefiting? 80, 000 00. YES! 80 LACKS! And what it takes? Five of us joining hands to benefit only one!
- Woman killed herself along with 4 children out of poverty.
Man took his life for not being able to feed his family.
Events like these make the news every day. What possibly could be the answer? What can one person do? One person, can make a difference! One person, in every few of us, can make miracles happen. That ‘one person’ in every street, every corner, can join hands together to become a mass of volunteers that can change anything they want.
Start from your home, your street, the one next to that and then the next one. Can you all pitch in to buy a sewing machine to the woman on the corner of the street, to help her start a micro scale business? While throwing thousands on food at a fancy café, and the dress we never wear twice, can’t we possibly throw in a little for the jobless man in our neighborhood to get a rickshaw on monthly installments OR have a food cart outside a school OR may be tutor your kids in the evenings, mow your lawn or provide wash-your-car service on weekends?
Because your small gestures can join in together and make the tables turn.
While making any expectations, consider yourself at the other end for a moment. Can’t I help to meet it? Wont it make a difference if I volunteer?
Yes it would! It so would.
Paint the side walk in your street on a weekend, plant a tree every time it’s a happy occasion, donate blood every three months on your birth date to make sure someone else lives another day, put a few coins aside every time you shop. Don’t want to wear the same dress a third time? May be make some one else’s Eid colorful, rather than your closet full, and thank God for being on the side of the picture where YOU CAN HELP.
WHERE YOU CAN HELP, YOU SHOULD HELP! VOLUNTEER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
