
Coping with Exam Stress and Anxiety
All students face stress and anxiety before test or final exams. This is even common in students who are well prepared for exam. Sometimes anxiety and stress motivates students to perform better and study hard but sometimes it effects negatively. There is no hard and fast rule to cope with stress and anxiety, every person has his own way.
Here are some tips to cope with exam and test anxiety:
Do exercise:
Morning walks or evening exercises are best stress relievers. It relieves student with anxiety and fresh air make you think clearly. It increases mental function and build positive energy.
Sleep well:
Adequate sleep is very necessary for good health. Good amount of sleep has positive effect on increasing mental ability. It also decreases anxiety. That’s why it is recommended to have a good night sleep before an important test or exam. If you do not get enough sleep prior to a test, you will be fatigued and more anxious.
Take care of diet:
Take care of your diet. Better nourished body has more energy. You need the nutrients necessary for proper brain function and physical energy. Never skip meals because of lack of time, it will increase anxiety. Schedule your time properly.
Quality over quantity:
While studying for important exams, don’t try to focus on quantity of topics you need to learn, instead focus on quality.
Prepare well:
If you are fully prepared for a test, and you know you can answer anything from the course, your anxiety will automatically decrease. So always be fully prepared.
Develop positive surrounding:
Develop positive environment around yourself, positive environment motivates you to work harder. Remain positive and concentrate on doing well on the test. Negative attitude will develop stress and anxiety.
Take out time for yourself:
Do not just focus on study all day long, it will exhaust you; take a time off from studying. Enjoy.
Stay relaxed:
Take deep breathing exercises. It will help in thinking clearly and calm down your anxiety. Be sure to relax before exam or test.
Don’t cram!
Cramming for an exam prior to taking it can increase anxiety. Those who take their time to properly prepare for an exam will experience less anxiety than those who decide to study a day or hours prior to one.
