Team Work
Team or group work in a classroom teaches students the fundamental skills associated with working as a collective unit towards a common goal. It requires students to work together and cooperate with each other to attain the desired goal. It takes all members of the team to respect each other’s abilities and opinions.
Teamwork helps student to move from intrapersonal (individual) ways of thinking to interpersonal (communicating with others). It helps students to socialize, share their ideas and feel part of the community. It strengthens social and emotional skills and helps in developing communication skills. Working in teams also boosts confidence.
In school students will experience teamwork in many different forms. Students may be asked to work in pairs, small groups, or larger groups on a variety of different things like class project, group assignment or lab experiment. They may be asked to work in teams for physical activities such as ball games or running games or more formal activities such as projects. Students also often form their own team activities during their play time.
The more teamwork fundamentals exhibited, the more opportunity exists for students to learn the vital skills of compromise and collaboration.
