4,000 schools to be converted to solar energy

May 2, 2015

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that as many as 4000 government schools will be converted to solar energy during 1st phase and preference will be given to the schools of South Punjab.

He expressed these views while addressing a meeting to review development on PC-1 in connection with conversion of schools to solar energy. High ups of education and energy departments were present on the occasion. Additional Secretary Energy Khalid Awais Ranjha briefed the meeting about the project.

The minister said that the government had evolved a comprehensive strategy to provide quality education and missing facilities in government schools. The parliamentarians are adopting schools under the program of “Parho Punjab, Barho Punjab” and it will have long-lasting impact on enrolment and quality education.

He said that huge funds would be allocated for conversion of schools to solar energy in upcoming budget. International donors will also be approached for the purpose, he added. He said that the government is taking all possible measures to restore the confidence of foreign investors.–Staff Reporter

Agreements worth billions of dollars have been signed with China and they will bring economic prosperity. The minister directed the officers concerned to chalk out future strategy after consulting all stakeholders.

PEF PHASE-9 LAUNCHED: The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has launched the expansion phase 9 of its Foundation Assisted School (FAS)- a public private partnership based free educational program for the most deserving students in Punjab.

It is hoped that this expansion phase will open the doors of schools to thousands of needy male and female students in the province as their monthly fee as well as textbooks will be provided by the foundation.

Under this expansion phase, partnership agreements were signed today in Lahore and Multan. New partners from the districts of DG Khan, Rajanpur & Lodhran signed agreements at a ceremony held at PEF regional office in Multan; while private schools heads from Jhang, Kasur, TT Singh, Narowal and Sheikhupura signed partnership agreements at PEF head office in Lahore.

Partnership agreements will be signed with private schools from Bahawalnagar, Lahore, Sahiwal, Nanakana Sahib, Pakpattan, Layyah and Bahawalpur on April 29.
