Girls take lead from boys with 20pc gap in pass percentage

LAHORE :Tuesday, September 24, 2013

 THE Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Lahore, on Monday announced the result of Intermediate (Combined Part-I & Part-II), Annual Examination 2013, according to which overall pass percentage is 61.15.

The gender-wise pass percentage shows that the girl students outperformed the boys as usual with pass percentage of 70.67 unlike boys as their pass percentage remained just 51.58.

A total of 132,873 candidates appeared in the exam and 81,258 were declared successful. As many as 66,228 male candidates appeared in the exam out of which 34,161 passed while 66,645 female candidates appeared while 47,097 remained successful. It is pertinent to mention that the BISE Lahore on Sunday had announced the toppers of the Intermediate (Combined Part-I & Part-II), Annual Examination 2013, according to which the overall top position was bagged by Asad Mumtaz of the Government College University (GCU), Lahore. On Monday, the board organised a prize distribution ceremony in honour of the toppers. PML-N MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif was the chief guest while the board’s Chairman Muhammad Nasrullah Virk, Secretary Javed Muzaffar Iqbal Chishti, Controller Anwar Farooq, heads of various educational institutions and students and their parents attended the event.

The overall topper was awarded a gold medal, Rs20,000 cash award and a laptop while the other position holders were awarded gold medals and Rs20,000, silver medal and Rs15,000 and bronze medal and Rs10,000 for first, second and third positions in different groups, respectively.

Arifa Khan Gold Medal was awarded to two candidates, Adnan Hafeez and Khadeja Khan, for their outstanding academic achievement in the subject of Psychology. Adnan secured 174 marks out of 200 while Khadeja scored 188 marks in the subject.

Earlier, Hamza Shahbaz made the examination results available online by pressing a computer button. He also gave away medals to the position holders and heads of their educational institutions.

Addressing the prize distribution ceremony, Hamza said Pakistani nation would never bow to terrorism. He said targeting Christians in bomb blast in Peshawar was a tragic incident which was highly condemnable. He said the whole nation shared the grief of Christian community. He said it was high time that all people living in the country should become a wall against terrorism. He expressed hope that 190 million people of the country would win the war and a handful of mischievous elements and terrorists could not make hostage the entire nation.

Hamza said problems like loadshedding, price-hike and unemployment could not shatter the spirit and determination of the nation. He said the country would soon achieve the goal of economic independence under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The PML-N leader said Nawaz Sharif had started operation in Karachi against mischievous elements and murderers without succumbing to any pressure and similarly, the struggle against terrorism was going on in other parts of the country.

He said the PML-N government was endeavoring for eliminating terrorism and other crises by rising above all kinds of politics. He said the PM, during his successful visits to China and Turkey, had expressed his clear commitment to resolving the energy crisis through Gidani and Lal Sohanra solar energy projects. He said it was not the fate of Pakistan to be called a beggar and terrorist country. He said a number of problems, including restoration of judiciary, had been resolved in the past.

Hamza Sharif further said that the Punjab government had made it clear to the world by completing projects like Daanish schools, Metro Bus System, assistance to flood affectees and Aashiana schemes through its own resources by refusing aid. He said the youth was precious asset to the country.
