Students still without school at the Torkham border

LANDI KOTAL: Bacha Mena Primary School at the Torkham border was destroyed by militants around 3 years ago, due to which over 100 students have to attend their classes in the open. The school is yet to be reconstructed after its destruction.
They have been forced to brave the harsh weather since for years to attain education as their repeated appeals to the concerned officers to build the school has been taken no account of.
The schools’ watchman, Hasan Shah, told Dawn News that the militants blew up the building on the night of January 19th, 2012 and the school remained closed for 6 months. But the authorities had to reopen it due to the continuous calls from the parents, as there was no other primary school present at the border.
The school runs with about 120 students and there is no building but some broken chairs and some desks placed in the open for the students to study on.
A 4th grader student, Majid Khan, said that due to no presence of any middle school in the border, most of the school students had to abandon their studies after they passed the 4th grade.
Locals demand an immediate reconstruction and posting of new staff at the school, and also up-gradation of the school so that their children can continue their studies further.
