How is Technology Changing our Classrooms?

May 11, 2015

Where everyday technology has changed everything in our lives, our classrooms are under its influence as well. From early years, primary school, colleges and university, you can see laptops and tabs replacing your regular notebooks. Interactive white board replacing the traditional black board, notes replaced by online key points and hand drawn presentations replaced by one in power point.

While 10 years ago, students might have been doing extra revision to reinforce a lesson, today, technology integrated schools offer their students computers in every classrooms and provide them the opportunity to play online educational games to reinforce their concept. Libraries have rows of computers, which allow you to access any book, article or material online and home works and assignments are emailed to students.

Step by step, and still a long way to go, our classrooms have officially entered the age of technology. Where education now focuses on students, technology helps on every step to make the learning process easier for them and students are encouraged to choose the way of learning that suits them best.

Few years ago, while showing a primary student process of plant growth, only text books were used. Today, you can make your student see the whole thing in front of them in online videos. Where teacher used to sing for preschoolers, now she can play it on a laptop and sing with the students. Yesterday, where finding reference for your assignments was the hardest thing to do, and finding a book from the library was a hard job, today, Google has made is easier for students to access all that while sitting a free period.

Today, when you enter any well-equipped class room, you can see resources everywhere, planned and placed to help students out to the maximum, projectors fixed on the ceiling and a computer around every corner. Technology today has definitely made our classrooms more desirable, more inviting and easier to offer learning.

According to a NCES report, 74% of preschooler to college level teachers have reported that technology helped them reinforce their lessons in a better way. 74% said, new ways and opportunities offered by technology motivated their students to learn. 48% teachers now use online lesson plans in their classrooms.

With certainly a lot more changes still to come our way, technology has reshaped our classrooms to the extent where students learn in a more comfortable environment with tons of opportunities opening their way. Let us help our schools move in to the new era of technology with the rest of the world and equip our children to excel.

Happy learning!
