Emergency situation in school – What to do?
In order to prepare and be prepared for the safety of students, staff and visitors, some schools conduct various drills during the school year, including but not limited to fire, building lockdown, severe weather, and earthquake.
But here are some general things to remember in case of emergency:
- Remain calm, use common sense, and provide aid. Take time to think before acting.
- Always evacuate the building immediately when you hear an audible alarm or see a visible alarm, when directed by authorities, or when the building becomes life-threatening, e.g., smelling natural gas.
- Proceed to the emergency gathering point for further instructions.
- Do not use the telephone for reasons other than emergency purposes.
- Follow your teachers or authorities at once; do not make a hassle of things as acting patiently in such situations can be of big help.
- Always stay alert in case of any emergency situation.
- Know the location of all marked exits from your school.
