Social Pressures and their Remedies
A school is not all fun and play for the kids. While some happily go on moving from one class to the next with friends to talk and discuss their matters with, most are exposed to a minefield of problems.
One challenge that is predominantly faced by most is bullying. Teasing is more popular among the teens, but exists among the kids equally, mainly for the sake of getting attention, be it positive or negative. Children might be teased for a number of reasons; their appearance, weight, age or failing grades, etc.. Sometimes being the teachers’s favorite leads to bullying as well. This might be because of the fellow students feeling jealous or threatened by the brightest student in the class.
Not being able to make friends is another issue which, when coupled with the bullying has deep repercussions on the child’s personality, sometimes putting roots deep inside the brain, particularly in the case when the child does not have someone to share the problems with.
Parents and teachers alike can play a significant role in helping kids deal with these issues. One very important point is to be patient with the child. Listening to their problem without judging them is what encourages them to open up and get past their issues.
Teachers in the school should educate students about the concept of empathy and treating fellow students with care and regard. At the same time if parents see their child behaving oddly and feel that the child has a more negative attitude, they should teach them about it and consult with their teachers in school as to what the reasons for that behavior might be. Coordination among teachers and the parents of the child can play a very positive role in reducing this menace to a minimum and leading to a better and more ethical future generation.
