Role of Parents in a Child’s Education
It is not what you do for your children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves, that will make them successful human beings.
~Ann Landers~
Children are innocent beings. They tend to follow in the footsteps of the people they admire and love, whether they do it consciously or unconsciously. Instead of doing what they are told, children have the tendency to behave as others do. The first people they are influenced by the most in this respect are their parents, who without any doubt are responsible for shaping their child’s future.
Though the common perception is that the be-all and end-all of educating a child is the school but that is a proven fallacy. School no doubt is central to a child’s education, but what children learn from their parents has an impact on their entire lives as education goes beyond mere academics. Children have the readiness to learn from the behavior and habits of their parents. How parents perceive education can become an inspiration for their children. They can play a highly influential role in instilling the passion to learn among their children by both their actions and their words, hence developing a never ending drive to learn. Research conducted by scholars over the centuries is a testament to this fact.
The responsibility, hence lies on the shoulders of the parents to connect more with their children, to lead by example and to impart the love for education in their minds. By doing this, parents can change their entire future and turn them into people who can lead lives that are meaningful and productive.
