MA English – UMT
Course Name: MA English
Overview:
English Literature and Language explores the interface between language and literature through an up-to-date and thorough introduction to the study of a wide variety of texts. The offered texts will study literature in its socio-cultural and historical context. The modules are designed to make students familiar with tools from Literature and English Language studies to analyze critically a range of spoken and written discourses and contemporary modes of communication. Language Awareness in the Workplace will explore aspects of language ‘use’ and ‘attitudes’ in a range of workplace environments, and examine the power of language to influence or construct both social relations and viewpoints. The MA in English Literature and Language offers an alternative to more traditional Humanities-based MAs by providing a unique combination of subject expertise and practicable employability activities not offered elsewhere. The course is designed to make students consider social and cultural identities, and thus provides substantial scope for reflection and personal development.
