Course overview:

To motivate people toward research with sound theoretical and practical knowledge of mathematics.

To make up the shortage of professional mathematics teachers

To establish the base for lifelong education by creating essential concepts and equipping the students with necessary techniques needed to start careers in teaching, research, and/or in any walk of life involving mathematics.

To prepare students to learn the concrete ideas of mathematics, to analyze problems critically, and to develop problem-solving skills.

To encourage students to become effective independent learners.

To encourage students to work in groups to get quick, true results.

Qualifying the University Comprehensive Examination
No of semester:
The duration of the program is 2 years which consists of 4 semesters
Requirements:
A person having four-year BS or two- year MSc in mathematics can apply subject to the following requirements:

In case of semester system, the minimum required CGPA is 2.5.

In case of annual system, the minimum required percentage is 60.
-
A person having more than one second division in his/her academic career cannot apply.
-
A person having a 3rd division in his/her academic career cannot apply.
-
The candidate will have to qualify the departmental test and interview at least 50% marks are required to qualify the written test and at least 50% marks are required to qualify the interview.
-
Applicants must have qualified GAT (General) test organized by National Testing Service (NTS) Pakistan or passed UE entry test.

Merit Calculation
The merit shall be determined on the basis of the following criteria:
Academic qualifications
40 marks *
Publications in HEC approved journals (2.5 marks per publication)
5 marks
Professional experience in relevant field
5 marks (1 mark for each year of job in the relevant field)
Discipline based test to be conducted by the relevant Campus/Division
50 marks (mandatory to pass; the minimum passing score shall be 25 out of 50)

Course duration:
The duration of the program is 2 years which consists of 4 semesters, and each semester comprises of 16 to 18 weeks.

The first two semesters are devoted to coursework.

The last two semesters are devoted to research.
Total credit hours 30 credit hours
-
24 credit-hour coursework will be carried out in first two semesters, 12 credit hours in each semester.
-
6 credit hours of research will be carried out in last two semesters.
