Course Overview: The Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies is one of the oldest departments of GCU. Dr. G.W. Leitner, an Orientalist, Professor of Arabic and the first Principal of Government College, Lahore founded the department in 1864. In 2005, a 4- Years Degree Programme was introduced as a Major Subject. The Department acquired the Postgraduate status after launching MPhil in Islamic Studies in 2010. The department also offers a Certificate Course in Arabic Language. Eminent Scholars like Prof. Noor Bakhsh, Dr. Pir Muhammad Hassan, Prof Sheikh Inayat Ullah, Prof. Abdul Qayyum, Dr. A.S. Agha, and Dr. Zia-ul- Haq Sufi, Dr. S.M. Zaman, Dr. Baha-ul-Haq Rana, Prof. Rafi Ullah Shihab, Prof. Imtiaz Ahmad Saeed, Dr. Khurshid-ul-Hassan Rizvi and Prof. Khan Muhammad Chawala have given their best to the department. The Department aims at realizing the long cherished dream of striking a balance between the pristine values of Islam as outlined in the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah, and the practical challenges of modern times. We try to cultivate a spirit of dispassionate research bringing about chiseled minds firm in belief but endowed with tolerance without, of course, being apologetic. The highly qualified academicians have been engaged to focus on achieving excellence in education and research and contributing to the intellectual, cultural and social development of the institution.

Requirements: 1. Admission Regulations
- Admission will be strictly on merit which shall be determined on the basis of overall marks and Interview.
- The applicant (Male/Female) applying for admission to BA/BSc (Hones) 4-years programme must have passed his/her HSSC with at least 50% Marks.
- The candidates for admission to B/BSc (Flans) will be interviewed on the dates notified. And the candidates who remain absent will have no claim to admission. Irrespective of the marks they have obtained in the HSSC Examination.
- Candidates who select English Literature and Political Science as their major subject are required to pass a written test conducted by the departments In order to qualify for admission. Merit List shall be prepared on the basis of the candidates’ score in the written test of and interview.
- For BSc (Hones) in Physics /Mathematics /Statistics/BS (CS), the candidate must have passed his/her HSSC Examination with Mathematics from any Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education securing at least 50% marks.
- Diploma holders DAE/B.Com are not eligible to apply for admission to BA/BSc 1-Years (lions) Programme except BSc (Hones) in Electronics offered by department of Physics, and B.Com (Hones) offered by department of Economics.
Candidate who passed! Corn will be eligible for admission to BA/BSc 4-Years (lions) programmer in only those subjects which are allowed by the concerned department.
How to apply: Admissions for Undergraduate degree programs usually opened once in a year during Fall Semester i.e. August / September.

Admission is made purely on merit basis from amongst the applicants. -
