Overview:
The inception of the Political Science Department, LCWU can be traced back to the pre-partition period when Miss Dooha single handedly imparted instruction in the subjects of Civics and Indian History. Later Mrs. Maqbool Hassan joined as the first lecturer in Political Science. By this time the college had shifted to its present building. Mrs. Mohsin, Miss Zohra Shah Mohammad and Mrs. Parveen Hassan further uplifted the department by popularizing the subject as one of the important disciplines in the Humanities group of studies. However the year 1979 was milestone in the history of the Department because postgraduate classes were introduced in the college and a full fledge department with exclusive responsibilities was established.
The Department began to offer Master degree program in Political Science, later the Master degree programs in Pakistan Studies and International Relations were also started in 1999 and 2005 respectively. Afterwards in 2005, Fours Year BS Program in Political Science/ International Relation/Pakistan Studies and Ph.D. program in Political Science was initiated. In 2010 MS Political Science was also initiated. Currently, these programmes are being conducted successfully by the department. This department provides services in to all the 26 disciplines in the university at F.A and B.S level by teaching Pakistan Studies as a Compulsory Subject.

Requirements
- Female candidates with minimum Eighteen years of education (MPhil/MS) or equivalent in the relevant field are eligible to apply.
- The candidate must have obtained 3.00/4.00 CGPA in semester system or 60% marks in annual system
- Qualifying GAT subject (60% Qualifying marks) is required to apply for admission in Ph.D. program
- In special circumstances, if the GAT Subject test is not available in NTS subject list, then the candidates have to appear in the special subject test organized by the university and the qualifying marks will be 70%
- Entry test (50% Qualifying marks) and Interview organized by university is mandatory for admission in Ph.D. Program

Candidates working in Government/Semi Government institutions have to submit NOC from concerned organization.
