Importance of Counselling and Student Guidance
A student’s life isn’t all about just acquiring education, or getting a highly paid job afterwards. It is about personal development too. It is a journey where students explore their personalities and abilities, likes and dislikes and how they are going to fit in various career paths. Counseling helps students in the process of self-exploration throughout student years so that when they search for or enter a college, they are more focused.
With so many choices in fields of education, top colleges to choose and universities to enter, students might become lost in selecting the right path. At high school, students hardly know what major will suit their potential; let alone what career to pursue. Sometimes students just follow the advice of parents, relatives or their favorite ideal personality in selecting their major.
Sometimes student seek broad based education without knowing how it is going to connect to their life and work later on. Apart from influence of others, a lot of factors play a huge role in making choices, for instance; emotional financial pressure, emotional instability, or having trouble in self exploration.
At this point counseling becomes most important, as counselor guides students which subjects, path or career will suit according to their own personalities, goals, talents, likes, dislikes and constraints. As a counselor sees everyone as unique individuals, they are trained to judge people even by their hobbies.
