What is Career Counselling?

Counseling basically is a relationship between a trained counselor and a student, it is a process designed to communicate and help students understand and clarify their life objectives. Student counseling helps students attain their self-determined goals through meaningful, well informed choices keeping in mind the problems i.e. social, emotional or interpersonal that are going to occur along the journey and guiding them through obstacles.
Career Counseling
is designed to help students work through their studies, choosing the right field of career, managing difficulty along the way, to help them understand and find better ways of managing.
Career development is a lifelong process that usually starts at a very early age. There are various factors that influence career development including student’s interests, abilities, values, personality, background, and circumstances.
Student career counseling helps in changing thoughts, feelings, moods and attitudes that usually distract a student from achieving goals and realizing his / her potential. It helps in making the students understand themselves and how much potential they have in order to make their career, educational and life decisions. It is not only based on deciding a major in college, or what kind of job to get, but it is a lifelong process throughout a student’s life as struggles and situations will change, and they will continually have to make career and life decisions. The goal of Career Counseling is not only to help them make the decisions they need to make now, but to give them the knowledge and skills they need to make future career and life decisions.
Counselors are well trained experts, and have expertise in career development theory, techniques of counseling, administration and interpretation of assessments and career information resources .They help in identifying and guide students how to overcome barriers in their potential. By communicating with the students they try to develop their self-awareness and a range of life skills and keep them informed regarding to the choices in their academic, personal and social life.
