Vision Impairment
Vision impairment is limitation in one or more functions of the eye (or visual system). The impairments affect the sharpness or clarity of vision (visual acuity) and the normal range of what you can see (visual fields) and color. There are different degrees of vision impairment ranging from mild loss to total blindness.
Some vision problems can be helped (‘corrected’) by wearing glasses, eye exercises or contact lenses. However, not all the vision problems can be corrected. A person’s level of vision may remain the same over time or it may change. It can get worse as part of some conditions, such as untreated cataracts and retinitis pigmentosa .The amount of loss will affect the type of support your child be will needing at home, at school and in the community.
