Junk Food And Child’s Health

Now a days junk has become more appealing for a number of reasons including price, convenience and taste. However, regular consumption can result to addiction, which can cause serious concerns for a child’s health and can lead to several complications. Desserts and pizza as well as soda, sports drinks and energy drinks make up the top sources of calories for kids’ aging 2 to 18, according to the publication “Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010.” A diet full of junk food not only affects weight but other facets of a child’s life too.

Some of the effects are given below:

  • It effects energy focus and concentration of child
  • Consumption of junk food increases the risk of obesity
  • Unhygienic food can cause chronic illness such as typhoid and pneumonia
  • Can lead to low self-esteem and depression(e.g. because of obesity)
  • Can effect mental health of a child
  • Can have a negative impact on their academic performances.

The required caloric intake ranges from 18000 to 24000 calories for girls and 12000 to 26000 calories for boys. These calories should be made up of foods low in cholesterol, salt, saturated fats and added sugars Its the parents’ duty to monitor and develop good eating habits in children so that they can be protected from risked situations.
