Future of 3,000 COMSATS dual degree programme students at Risk

Students from Comsats University arranged a press conference at the National Press Club to share the trouble from which they are passing through these days. A student of Comsats University, Jawad, who has just completed his degree under the same programme in a press conference, said that “Please stop identifying our degrees as fake. We humbly request all the related institutes as well as and media not to use that word because we have worked hard for four years to meet the international standards and to achieve this degree after spending a large amount”.

While talking to the media person he said that even if their money is returned from any party however their degrees are not recognised, it will waste their valuable four years. He furthermore said that their future should not suffer because of the directorial mistakes of the related educational institutes. He added “We have applied abroad for higher studies on basis of these dual programme degrees and a large numbers of students have got jobs on the basis of this degree. We request the government to recognised degrees of almost 3,000 aspirants”.

The students of Comsats University said that according to the unanimous decisions of Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology and Federal Education and Trainings, dual degree under dual programme of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) and Lancaster programme should be delivered to the registered aspirants.

The student representatives of registered students of Comsats-Lancaster programme, Jawwad and Uzair Kiyani notified the media persons that Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology in its two meetings on 27th July 2015 and 18th August 2015 consistently decided the grant of dual degree to all the registered aspirants for Comsats-Lancaster programme. After that this decision was likewise permitted by Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Trainings.

In the meantime, Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) in a press release claimed that it is completely committed to solve this matter of Dual Degree Program at its Lahore Campus. In this regard, the approvals or directions of the Standing Committee on Science & Technology of the Senate organized on 24th July 2015 as well as 18th August 2015 have already been bring up to the Higher Education Commission for more guidance, and hence the directed decisions might be implemented in the accurate letter and spirit. The university expects that this matter will be solve soon to the satisfaction of all participants, particularly the concerned aspirants, because protecting their future is the first priority of the university.
