There’s no doubt in the fact that the family life has great impact on the productivity of the kids. A good family structure, a stimulating home environment, supportive parents all count for the success of the children. But all the research and focus has been solely on the role parents and teachers can play in building the lives of the kids. But I believe, today’s generation is not THAT naive to let all the matters of their success fall into someone else’s hand.
You have to take action! A good stimulating and healthy home life is what every kid needs but is that attainable without the efforts put by the children, definitely NOT! This is what students must understand. The age of modern technology has revolutionized everything, the way we talk, the way we interact, hobbies, pastimes, even the choice of holidays and especially the way those holidays are spent. The structure and routines of home, how kids eat, what kids eat, everything has evolved. And we must know that all these changes are not much productive. The time kids spend with their families, the tolerance level they practice, it’s all changed just due to the easy access of technology into our lives.
Now, how to take benefit from the positive influences that family have on the social life of students? It is quite simple, first work on making the family environment better.
Step students can take to improve family life:
- Spend time with your families. Yes, take out at least two hours a day solely to be with your family. No mobile phones. No games. Just sit, relax and talk. Maybe adjust that time around family meals.
- Be tolerant. This is very important. Show some respect to others’ views. Give them some space. It is not necessarily true for everyone to have your point of view. People differ so do their ideas, so before exploding into words to condemn, see their reasoning. After all it is for your own good. Families differ only to make you more productive. Listen to your parents, weigh their opinions and reason with logic. Select the best option. Create a win-win situation.
- Follow the rules. This is your major contribution to a balanced family life. In case, you are an elder sibling, you would want to realize your responsibility and importance in the character building of your younger siblings. What you do is what they learn. Always keep that in mind. Even if you feel you have to go against some preset rule, talk to your parents, seek permission. Family rules are always flexible. But do not defy openly.
- Parental involvement. It is the duty of your schools to involve your parents into your learning so that you can benefit from the impact of home learning but if they’re not doing anything regarding that, take that in your hands too. Talk to your parents. Involve them into your projects, homework. Discuss your assignments. Seek their advice. Or you can even ask your teachers to do that for you.
The list can go on. The point is students have to share responsibility. No effort from teachers alone could make you prosper likewise your parents can’t make you succeed. Together they can achieve something but when you’re involved in your own prosperity and you take charge of keeping your school and home life healthy, is when you actually are going to make a difference!
